I REFER to the letter from Cllr Philip Sanders printed in the Times recently. I welcome his explanation about the process of developing a new plan for the borough as it helps to sort out any confusion that may have arisen over the last few years. With regard to Okehampton in particular, many residents are suspicious of 'Our Plan' and indeed the actual process of consultation. The majority of residents do not get involved at all. In fact only 59 responses were received last summer in spite of every effort by WDBC to engage with the public. I ask this question. How can we be sure that the new plan will be carried through? We know that the core strategy approved in 2011 required major alterations when a new government came into power. We face another General Election on May 7 this year when we all decide who will or who will not be in power. What then? On the same page in your newspaper under the Reflections column, the Rev Stephen Cook exhorts everyone to keep an open mind and to recognise that sometimes we can be mistaken. Perhaps we can all apply this principle to the way in which we use our vote? V A Cushing Okehampton
