TOWARDS the end of  last year, the Okehampton Community Archive looked at ways of commemorating the First World War.

Initially this was a research project based on Okehampton people who fought and died in that war.

We then looked at ways of displaying that information as part of the commemoration.

We realised that many other organisations may also be planning events to commemorate the war.

So as not to duplicate effort, or tread on anyone's toes, I volunteered to contact the various groups and act as a central point of information.

If your group is planning an event, or wishes to be involved in any way, please let me have the details so that I can forward them to the other interested parties.

At this stage I think this is easier done by email contact rather than meetings.

I also understand that there may be a form of Government funding for community events commemorating the war.
