IS it any wonder that we hold all our politicians in such contempt? They have all ruled out any increase in general taxation. The King's Fund report clearly shows that despite the best possible efficiency savings it is blindingly obvious that if the quality of care in the National Health Service is to be improved or at least maintained, a very significant injection of extra cash will be unavoidable. Our spending on health remains low in comparison with most other developed economies. The money has to come from somewhere and attempting to tax further the very well off will not result in raising anything like the amount needed. I, for one, will be voting for anybody who has the guts to admit this and to set out how they intend to fund it without increasing our appalling deficit. Why do they treat us like idiots?
