CHILDREN, parents and members of the community from Lady Modifords C of E Primary School, in Walkhampton, are getting ready to compete against budding cooks across the country in a healthy cooking challenge.

Lady Modifords Let's Get Cooking club will pit its members and supporters against clubs around England in a bid to get the most people cooking the same healthy recipe on the same day.

The BIG Cookathon takes place today (Thursday), and is organised by national healthy cooking programme Let's Get Cooking. The event aims to beat last year's success when more than 50,000 people took part. Lady Modifords Let's Get Cooking club will be making Cheesy Ham and Leek Crumble and Veggie cheesy Crumble for a chance to win a share of £5,000 in prize money.

Let's Get Cooking club co-ordinator Anne Hext-Williams said: 'It's a massive challenge to have so many people cooking all on the same day, but we're determined to help Let's Get Cooking notch up its biggest total yet and to get even more people cooking in Walkhampton.'

The event at Lady Modifords will kick off at 9.15am.

Led by the School Food Trust, Let's Get Cooking provides training, resources and support to help set up healthy cooking programmes for people of all ages.

Let's Get Cooking has established England's biggest network of healthy, school-based cooking clubs for children and families, helped by a £20m grant from the BIG Lottery.
