FREEZING temperatures, blizzards and snowdrifts didn't stop a determined group of slimmers in Okehampton from sticking to their New Year's resolutions this January.

Members of Vickie's Slimming World group in Fairplace Church braved the Arctic conditions to get to their weekly meeting and start to shift any extra pounds they gained over Christmas.

Organiser of the group, Vickie Mills said: 'I'm so proud of the members.

'When I saw the weather forecast, I was worried that people wouldn't make the effort to come out in the cold weather, but in fact I had 43 members through the door, people walked for miles to get to us and there was a fantastic blitz spirit — a real sense of community.'

With the snow continuing the decision has been made to change the day of the groups this week to today (Thursday) at 1pm and 6pm at Fairplace church.

New members are very welcome with a special offer of half price membership.

Mrs Mills added: 'The first week of January is a really important time for slimmers and I was determined that the weather wouldn't stop us.

'Many people resolve that this is the time to do something about their weight, and if they go off track on week one, they might never get back.

'That's why it was so important to make sure the groups run — we promise to be with our members on their weight loss journey every step of the way.'
