Vibrant flavours and vibrant music were the order of the day in Okehampton on Saturday, as the town centre was taken over for the annual Okehampton Food and Music Festival.

In its seventh year, the festival saw musicians performing in the area around St James Chapel, Red Lion Yard and the Museum of Dartmoor Life courtyard.

There were also young dancers from Okehampton and storytelling from Kevin Cotter of the town’s Harvest Workers Co-operative.

Everything Okehampton, the hard-working volunteers organising the event, saw a return of the sun which made the 2018 event such a success.

From cheese to chocolate, local gin to vodka and wood-fired pizzas to Indonesian food, there were plenty of opportunities to make tasty discoveries.

Those enjoying the vibe could carry on enjoying live music into the evening in the courtyard of the Plume of Feathers pub, which was open from lunchtime.

Organiser Christine Marsh said the event was very important for the town.

‘It is a combination of things,’ she said. ‘It is a feel good thing for the town, that is one thing. Then the festival also brings people into the town which will benefit other traders in the town.

‘It encourages people to stay in town, have a wander around and go into some of the shops and discover what is here. It is a bit like Edwardian Evening in that way. People won’t necessarily spend in shops on the day but they will come back.’
