Okehampton is preparing to come together today, Sunday, November 8, for its annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service.
This will honour the servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of our country and remember all those affected by conflict.
Organised by Okehampton Town Council, the parade will assemble at the Town Hall in Fore Street before marching off at 10.30am to All Saints Parish Church and the war memorial.
Veterans, serving personnel, cadets, uniformed youth groups and community organisations will gather to pay their respects and reflect on the importance of remembrance.
The participation of the Okehampton Detachment Army Cadet Force (Devon), 2443 (Okehampton) Squadron Air Cadets and other uniformed youth groups demonstrates the commitment of younger generations to preserving this important tradition.
The service will include the Last Post, two minutes’ silence, the Reveille and the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial, followed by a church service led by Revd Claire Reynolds and Revd Jonathan Cook. The parade will then return to Fore Street for the march past, with the salute taken by the town mayor.
