SEVEN Okehampton Running Club members lined up to start the Duchy 20 mile race in Redruth, Cornwall.
The race, in its seventh year, was organised by Cornwall Athletics Club started at the Penventon Park Hotel at the same time as the 35th Duchy marathon. All runners headed north from Redruth towards Portreath where they turn west following the North cliffs.
Since the weather was fine, dry and still this section of the race provided runners with some beautiful sea views before heading back towards Pool.
Marathon entrants ran a two lap race while Duchy 20 participants followed a short detour before rejoining the marathon route to the same finish at the Penventon Park Hotel. 226 runners completed the Duchy 20, with the first runner home (Mark Jenkin Bideford AAC) completing it in 1hr 50mins.
On behalf of ORC, Kirstin Phippard was the first club runner to finish in 2.41.17 (64th overall and a personal best). Paul Grainge finished in 2.51.25, Leanne Rice 3.06.45, Cathy Carey 3.08.04, Marilyn Cooper 3.09.42 (club record for veteran 55), Jo Camies 3.16.59 and Alison Holliday 3.27.54 (club record vet 35) all achieving personal best times.
One ORC member was among the 223 runners to complete the full Duchy Marathon. Joanna Daniels finished in 3.44.36 and third place in her age category, a club record vet 40 and a personal best time.
