The Parochial Church Council of St Peter’s Church in North Tawton has submitted a planning application to construct a new ramp up to the main doors to create a wheelchair-accessible entrance (2016/26/FUL).

Currently, a granite stone step sits at the main entrance of the Grade 1-listed building, making it inaccessible to wheelchair users and difficult to negotiate for parents with prams and buggies.

To ensure all churchgoers can enter through the main church doors, the church council has requested permission for a removable stone ramp to be laid over the existing step.

The plan proposes that the original cobbles near the entrance of the church be lifted and relaid over a newly created slope up to the step. Iron handrails will also be core-drilled into mortar joints to avoid fracturing the original masonry.
