Central Devon MP Mel Stride is backing Government plans to stop employers withholding tips from staff.

New legislation is being put forward to make it illegal for businesses to keep any of the discretionary service charge added to customers’ bills for themselves.

It is also proposed to give employees the right to request information on an employer’s tipping record to make it easier to make a claim to an employment tribunal.

Mr Stride said: ‘Hospitality workers play a vital role in the local economy here in Central Devon. Employers should not be withholding tips that their workers have worked hard for by providing good customer service.’
