THE Winkleigh Society is hosting a pop-up museum event which will take place on Saturday (September 17) in Winkleigh Community Centre.

The society is inviting local people to come along and enjoy the day which will showcase a whole host of artwork and include art workshops for children and adults, a recreation of an old school photograph, and guided walks.

Organisers are inviting villagers to bring, display and share their own photographs, archives and recount their stories in the storyteller’s chair, which will be provided by Winkleigh Pine.

This flagship event for The Winkleigh Society is seeking to reveal the stories, struggles, traditions and culture of the people of Winkleigh and Hollocombe.

Phillip Griffths of The Winkleigh Society said: ‘Winkleigh’s pop-up museum will strive to be immersive and interactive and in the spirit of modern museums.

‘There will be characters in costume, a dairy corner, a rolling viewing of film archives but, most important, a chance to listen, share and understand how our lives fit into and affect the village landscape.’

On the day there will also be three local authors, including Shirley Cowling and David Watkins, who will offer visitors the opportunity to purchase signed copies of their work.

The pop-up museum will be held in the Community Centre, Castle Street in Winkleigh from 10.30am, heralded by a peal of bells from All Saints Church.
