A village in West Devon is facing a month’s worth of roadworks.
A road closure in Sampford Courtenay is about to be rolled out causing a temporary prohibition of through traffic
Devon County Council has made an order that no person shall “cause or permit any vehicle to proceed on the sections of affected roads”.
This temporary restriction is necessary to enable the replacing of overhead mains cables in the village.
National Grid will be carrying out essential works which require the closure of some local roads for safety reasons.
Work is to begin on (or around) Monday, October 19. The anticipated finish date is Friday, November 13 – and the closures could cause a fair amount of detour.
Roads affected are as follows: The road from The New Inn to Weirford House (in Sampford Courtenay outside The New Inn).
The alternative, signed, route for vehicles will be via the road from Langdale to Redpost Cross, West Barton Lane, A3072.
Then, from Monday, October 26, another section will be temporarily closed, again with an anticipated finish date of Friday, November 13.
Roads affected: Rectory Hill from just past Sunnyside to the outside of Rose Cottage
The alternative, signed, route for vehicles will be via the A3072, A3124, A382, A30, A386, and / or the A3072.
This section of road is also closed to traffic due to work to replace overhead mains cables in the area.
Drivers will need to loop around the alternative routes in order to bring them to the other side of the piece of road that’s closed off.
Village pub, The New Inn will be “trading as normal” for the duration of the road closures.
In a letter to residents, National Grid gave advance notice of works which “may affect access to your property”.
The letter said “we would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause”. It also stated that National Grid will “do our best to carry out our works in the shortest possible timescale and to keep any inconvenience to a minimum”.
