THE yarn bombing phenomenon sweeping North Tawton has reached new heights with its very own song.
Local musician Rex White aka Fretmeister wrote the song after being inspired by the recent yarn bombings.
Yarn bombing is a form of street art that has seen colourful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn wrapped around various objects throughout the town.
Rex of North Tawton high street said: ‘Like most of us here in North Tawton I have been delighted and intrigued by the artful creations appearing bit by bit around the town.’
The 62-year-old man said that he was a very keen amateur musician and that the track was the the first song he had ever written.
Mr White said: ‘The yarn bombing cried out for a song really and you never know, there may be more where that came from!’
The original song, called North Tawton Yard Bomb, is sung in the melody of Ash Groove, a traditional Welsh folk song.
Yarn bombing organisers, who are known on social media as Yarnageddon, have expressed thanks to Rex for his song.
Yarnageddon creator, Jo MacDonald said: ‘We were totally over the moon to find Rex had taken his free time to create us our own Yarnageddon song, it is brilliant!’
Yarnageddon is going from strength to strength and we now have other mystery yarn bombers displaying their woolly art around North Tawton which is amazing, with one piece being sent down from Nottingham and we even received a yarn bomb package from as far away as America!’
Due to the success of the yarn bombings the Yarnageddon team will be running some woolly workshops in North Tawton, for more details visit the North Tawton Yarnegeddon 2016 Facebook page.
