A SPRING celebration and book launch will be held in the Forest Garden and Orchard at Okehampton College, as part of Growing Our Future's investigation into climate change.
What's the World Coming To? will be held tomorrow (Friday) from 2pm to 9pm and is a collaboration between the college, Growing Our Future and the wider community of Okehampton.
Everyone is invited to share food, words, thoughts, music, films and workshops to talk about the environment and how it is continuously changing.
From January to March 2009 the community of Okehampton carried out an investigation into the evidence of climate change and how knowledge can be transformed into positive action.
The project involved all generations of the community and focused on bringing people together and sharing skills.
It was hosted at Okehampton College and welcomed individuals from all walks of life, to listen to views, thoughts, criticisms and encouragement from within the community.
What's the World coming to? originated with the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Group, STEM, who asked a series of questions to develop understanding of what the term climate change means and what the community could do to lessen the effects.
What's the World Coming to? focuses on historical, scientific, social and environmental research, looking at the local community and landscapes, putting their findings on a personal scale and empowering people to take action towards a positive and cohesive future.
The community has worked together to transform the environment and with the help of four environmentalist specialists, has contributed writings to a book as an informative, active and enjoyable response to climate change.
The event is open to anyone who wants to support the environment and work together to improve it.
