STAFF at Somerfield in Okehampton 'got on their bikes' at the weekend to raise money for cancer charity CLIC Sargent.
Around £1,100 was raised when 18 members of staff, in two groups, cycled from Somerfield to Lydford Castle on Saturday and Sunday.
Staff member,Teresa Luffingham, who helped organise the event, said they wanted to support Okehampton resident, Bea Holman-Brooks. Bea, aged 12, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in January 2009.
Mrs Luffingham said: 'Bea is an inspirational young lady from Okehampton, who along with her family, has been supporting the charity, which has shown them so much support during the past 18 months. She is someone local to the area and it means a lot to us, we wanted to help.
'Everyone had a good laugh along the way and it was a fantastic day. A couple of us walked it and everyone had a choice to either do the 11 miles to the castle or make a return journey of 22 miles.'
Over the last six months the store has raised £1,900 for CLIC Sargent, by holding cake stalls, bingo, a book sale, quiz night and a leg and wax head shave.
Somerfield expressed thanks to everyone who supported them.
