A HOUSE designed by an Okehampton architect is to be featured on the BBC 2 programme 'The House that £100k Built'.
Mary and Justin Barriball have been filmed for the past 18 months as they have been building their 'affordable' house at Chapmanswell, from planning and digging the foundations to installing their kitchen units, and their story will feature on an episode this month, aired on a Wednesday night.
The building project is a real family affair, with Justin's father Guy, and his uncles and brothers involved in the building work. On the other side of the family, Mary's father John Forward is the architect for the project. John works for Studio OK in Okehampton and the company decided to adopt Mary and Justin's project as a way of developing their design for an affordable, eco-friendly house, that other couples could buy off the shelf.
The BBC series is introduced by architectural journalist and critic Keiran Long and architect Piers Taylor. The pair seek to introduce design concepts to people struggling to build with a severely limited budget.
John Forward said: 'We designed a house that would fit Mary and Justin's way of life, combining their need to save money in the original build and be as energy efficient and sustainable as possible with a design that would be a pleasure to live in.
'Piers tested the concept, taking Mary and Justin to see what other designers have incorporated in houses elsewhere in the country, so it will be very interesting to see how the final result is judged.'
