THE letter (October 28) from Mr Podmore rather took the biscuit, I thought!
Mr Brown, while Chancellor, altered the controls over our financial services so that responsibility was split between three agencies instead of one.
This had the effect (as it always does) that no-one and everyone was responsible for what was going on in the city.
This always happens where ever it's put into operation. Take a look for example at the NHS, Inland Revenue, Border Controls, Police etc. If you have a problem with any of them you can never pin anyone down who is responsible. It's like nailing jelly to a wall.
But even without the incompetence of the banks and Brown, the government had increased spending by half a trillion pounds in ten years, money we didn't have, all had to be borrowed. This was £50,000 for every household in the country.
In 2007/8 the Brown government paid out £156-billion to 30-million recipients in 40 different types of social security payments. This couldn't go on!
Unfortunately for us all, the present lot of incompetents are no better than the last lot. But then, surely no-one can be so out of touch as Brown and Co (or could they?)
