2nd B West

Tavistock 2nds v Cornwood 3rds

TAVISTOCK hosted Cornwood on a dull day which, although dry at the outset, was plagued by persistent drizzle from the tenth over.

The home side batted first and lost wickets to poor shots and were soon 45-3 and 75-5, leaving them in a precarious situation.

Further wickets fell and at 117-7 the prospects looked bleak for posting a competitive total.

This didn’t stop captain Andy Gauler and Dave Milligan set about achieving a decent total. Gauler scored a patient 35 and with Milligan, took the score up to 201. Milligan grew in confidence, but this time, having the opportunity to play an innings, his shot-making blossomed and he scored a superb 72 not out at number nine, lifting his team to an unlikely score of 239-8.

Cornwood’s bowlers, hampered by a wet ball, stuck to the task well, sharing the wickets.

Tavistock’s bowlers had the same problem with a wet ball. The rain got harder and with Cornwood nicely placed on 61-1 and the game evenly poised, the match was abandoned, keeping Tavistock in second place in the table.
