Dawlish ladies 3

Okehampton ladies’ thirds 1

THIS was a tough match for Okehampton and the team found it difficult to gel and gain a foothold in the game.

Fortunately for the visitors, their player of the match, Carol Newcombe, was alert in goal and cleared the ball out of danger to save Okehampton’s blushes on a number of occasions.

Jane Jones, making a welcome return from injury, made some crucial tackles as sweeper and marshalled her left and right backs, Lois Rowlands and Hannah Woodhams, who both put in good performances. However, the sheer pressure of attack made it difficult to keep Dawlish at bay and they soon went ahead, followed by another goal just before half time.

Okehampton flickered into life in the second half with Jennie Humphry and Sarah Marvin battling for the ball in midfield.

Maddie Davidson found some space down the left wing and there was some good link up moves with her forwards, Sarah Bazeley and Izzy Rowlands.

Okehampton were beginning to show signs of their potential and eventually won a corner from which Izzy buried the ball into the bottom corner of the Dawlish goal. However much of their play lacked fluency.
