Devon Intermediate Cup

SOUTH MOLTON

OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE SECONDS 1

OKEHAMPTON seconds travelled to South Molton for their first round tie.

South Molton started brightly and went one up after 10 minutes when a penalty was awarded by the referee.

Shortly after, South Molton were two goals to the good after the Argyle keeper fumbled a cross which allowed South Molton to convert again.

After a water break, Oke regrouped and played some attractive passing football. However, despite all their efforts  they were unable to break through the defence. With 10 minutes left, Okehampton’s task got harder as midfielder Jamie Mallett was sent off for a second yellow for tripping an opponent in the middle of the park. However, Argyle were offered a lifeline two minutes from the end when Ben Mitchell was manhandled in the area from a corner and the referee gave a penalty.

Dave Medland coolly slotted the penalty in off the post. As Argyle sensed an unlikely path to the next round, sub Matt Dennis blasted the ball over the bar with just seconds remaining.

Okehampton Argyle’s first team game with Kentisbeare was in the Devon and Exeter premier abandoned due to a dislocated ankle of a Kentisbeare player in the 70th minute. The score was 2-1 to Oke at the time.
