Chagford 8

Thorverton 0

FOR the second consecutive week - and the third time this season - Chagford netted eight times, although Thorverton battled throughout.

From the fifth minute the tone was set for the day. Reuben Sampson harried his marker into a poor back pass, took the ball past Ryan Smales and rolled it into an empty net. This was just the first time the visiting ’keeper was failed by his defence and he did go on to make some superb saves, in spite of the scoreline.

Sampson doubled the lead with a rocket of a shot, when White set him up. The game might have been over in the first half but Chagford spurned chances and Smales defied them also.

In the 53rd minute Ollie Squire crossed for Sampson to complete his hat-trick, his fourth of the season, as the Thorverton resistance collapsed.

Andrew Davis scored two goals within 10 minutes, with Ben Barkwill’s mazy run sandwiched in between for a stunning individual goal. Squire notched a well deserved goal in the 69th minute and Robbie Miller scored the eighth, with time running out.

Manager Duncan Vincent had a comfortable appearance in goal, the only Thorverton shot to trouble him coming off the crossbar. Chagford keep their place at the top of the table.

Bickleigh Reserves 5

Chagford Reserves 1

CHAGFORD Reserves came home with nothing to show for their efforts but Liam O’Connell’s solitary goal.

Table-toppers Bickleigh achieved a comfortable double over their visitors and must be favourites to step up. With their remaining three matches featuring sides also scrapping for promotion, Chagford’s task gets no easier and they must continue to draw on the spirit shown for much of the season. They have no match this week and need to take advantage of the break.
