North Tawton 102

IT did not take long for the floodgates to open and a cricket score to appear as North Tawton hammered Devonport High School for Boys Old Boys.

Within the first 12 minutes Rickerby, M Dennis and Ayris had all crossed the whitewash for North Tawton after some fine offloading by both forwards and backs alike to expose the DHSOB defence.

An unscheduled first quarter was called after 20 minutes due to an injury. At the restart the Tawton front row of Wonnacott, Kerswill and May reunited for the first scrum of the game, duly taken against the head.

With further injuries creeping into the Plymouth side, things only got worse for them with Phare crossing, Ayris adding two more to his tally and C Dennis completing his third hat-trick in as many weeks.

At half-time the visitors led 57-0.

The second half started with North Tawton sustaining an uncharismatic period of defence as the DHSOB hit back with a number of phases in attack. This was short lived, however, as North Tawton's discipline remained strong, turnovers became inevitable and flowing rugby continued with Henshaw and Cornthwaite notable, carrying the ball with much intent.

More tries came from Sharp junior, A Dennis (2), returning skipper Letherbridge (2) and C Dennis with his fourth.

Individual effort of the day must go to May who flew the flag for the forwards and ran half the length of the pitch to make up for conceding the visitors only three penalties all game.
