THE Okehampton Tennis Club ladies A team travelled last week to Dawlish for a match against their closest rivals in division five of the Exeter and District League.

The Okehampton team was without one of their key players Kath Bolt, who sadly, died. Kath was a keen, dedicated player and she will be sorely missed, both on and off the court.

Jackie Jarvis and Angela Herod-Taylor started off well and cruised to an early victory against the Dawlish second pairing 6-0, 6-0. In their second match Jackie and Angela continued to play with confidence and won 6-1, 6-1.

Penny Holman teamed up with Beth Dennis and not having played together for a while took time to settle. With some long rallies and close games, they eventually lost 5-7, 5-7.

In the second rubber they fought with determination and although they  lost the first set 3-6, they upped their game to take the second 6-2. Although they continued to battle they were eventually narrowly beaten in the resulting tie break 7-10.

It was a good evening for Okehampton as they won overall 5-4, maintaining top place in the league.
