Okehampton ladies’ firsts 0

Bude ladies 2

OKEHAMPTON ladies’ firsts were at home against Bude in perfect hockey weather. The start of the first half saw great pressure from the home side with the midfield of Sophie Whiteley and Molly Marvin driving the ball towards the attacking goal.

Oke player of the match Ellie Shayler, flew down the left wing forcing the ball into the oppositions’ D to the forwards Hannah Whiteley and Lesley Bingham. A quick turnover allowed Bude to break and change the direction of attack.

The change of direction allowed Bude their first chance with a penalty corner; Oke denied Bude their opportunity with a double save on the line from keeper Alice Wiseman and defender Laura Parsons. Bude kept fighting and won themselves a penalty corner; however once again Oke denied their chance with Abi Colton making a crucial tackle that kept the ball out of the net. Oke were on the attack again with midfielder Jess Moyse moving the ball quickly up the pitch, with the help of Anna Speak. This allowed Okehampton to put pressure on Budes’ defence with a reserve shot at the top of the D from Kimbo Jambo.

The game turned once again with Bude winning a short corner, with a quick deflection the first goal of the game. This did not dampen Okehampton’s spirit as they carried fire into the second half.

The game restarted with more pressure on Budes’ defence with Oke putting more shots on target, winning themselves a short corner. Unfortunately for Oke nothing came of the advantage this time and the home side found themselves rushing back as the game turned over. A quick shot from Bude allowed the second goal of the game to be scored with only minutes until the game ended.

Oke continued to fight but were not rewarded for their efforts.

• Oke ladies’ first’s next game is away at Exeter University on November 11.
