Teignmouth U15s 21

Okehampton U15s 50

OKEHAMPTON got off to a brisk start, moving the ball well to allow George Dickinson to sprint through for his first try.

Teignmouth responded positively and when Oke were penalised for offside, the home side scored a well-worked equaliser, which they converted to take a slender lead.

Oke edged ahead again shortly after with George scoring a carbon copy of his previous score. Teignmouth hit back with an excellent score from their back line, and converted to take the lead again.

The pendulum in this intriguing game swung back in Oke’s favour when some simple, effective rugby opened the door for George to claim his third try, which he converted to put the visitors back in the driving seat just before half time.

From the restart, Oke put Teignmouth under immediate pressure, and following a great steal by Brad Bourner, Dan Turney spun the ball out to Noah Cracknell who broke through to score. Oke’s confidence was growing all the time, and the forwards were gelling really well; the rewards came in the shape of tries from Tom Stevens and Nathan Tomkins.

Teignmouth kept fighting and were able to claim another try after some very weak Oke tackling. Near their line Teign looked to move the ball, but Brad Simmons read the play beautifully to intercept and score a superb individual try. The game was sewn up from Oke’s next attack and George took his tally to four with the final try of the game.

Teignmouth U14s 12

A BRIGHT, sunny morning saw Okehampton welcome Teignmouth for their second game of the season.  The first five minutes of the game were fairly even, until a well won scrum from Okehampton provided quick ball out through the backs and great recycling of the ball from the forwards, to see Daniel Tomkins cross the line to open the scoring.

Teignmouth replied quickly with a well worked try minutes later and they kept up the pressure throughout the first half, containing the young Okes to their own 22.  Just before half time, Teignmouth made a quick break from the scrum to score again.

Okehampton made a positive start to the second half, with great ball handling across the backs to see Greg Haste score on the wing.  All credit to Teignmouth who tackled and rucked determinedly, quickly closing down chances created by Okehampton, on a day when it just didn’t quite click for the young Okes.  With just two points in it, the Oke players were disappointed to lose, but will be determined to pick themselves up for their next game.
