South Molton U16s 5
Okehampton U16s 34
A RARE run out for the Okes U16s saw them return to winning ways on a windy Sunday morning.
Oke began with the slope advantage and despite a slow start, they gradually grew into the match and by its conclusion had total dominance.
The larger home side were a match for them in the first 15 minutes, but after Oke finally gleaned some possession, a useful kick ahead brought the first score. A debut one it was too and new winger Cameron Mathew showed good pace to win the race for the loose ball and open the scoring.
Oke now had enough ball to camp in Molton territory as the forwards found their driving game two more scores arrived before the interval. Number eight Greg Daniel scored with a trademark pick up and drive over from a five metre scrum. Ben Mckenna-Smith landing the conversion to make it 12-0. Then, just before the interval, more forward pressure resulted in a smart pick up score from impressive lock Riou Thomas.
Oke turned around 17-0 ahead and their dominant second half efforts ensured they never looked in any danger, despite playing uphill into a forceful wind.
Three more second half tries were forthcoming for the Okes, as the forwards pick and go tactics were smartly executed against a tiring home outfit.
Oke’s bonus point score was the pick of the bunch as full back Ryan Cross counter attacked superbly from a deep home kick ahead. The ball was moved left and rangy centre Harry Cole outpaced the home cover defence to cross for the fourth try.
Oke flanker Jack Ogbourne was in imperious form and yet another turnover allowed Oke to attack once more. This time it was Greg Daniel who bagged his second score with another powerful burst via an attacking maul; Ben Mckenna-Smith adding the extras. The aforementioned centre then rounded off proceedings with a fine solo score of his own as he cit a swathe through midfield to dot down under the posts. Leon Horn potted over the conversion and the final whistle blew.
Okehampton U12s 2
Teignmouth U12s 11
THERE was an outstanding effort from every single member of the Okehampton team this week, against a well-drilled, no-nonsense Teignmouth.
Oke played hard throughout the game, demonstrating some top-class teamwork and their usual gritty determination.
It was an enthralling game with Okehampton making a real nuisance of themselves. They maintained intense pressure from the outset — some noteworthy examples from Isaac, Luke, Matt, Morgan, Seth and Tom.
Every try that Teignmouth scored was hampered to the last split second, with great defensive action, including some hardy chases from Aedan, Ethan, Marcus and Matt, who successfully pushed Teignmouth out just before they could ground the ball.
Okehampton gave their all to maintain possession and were unlucky that Teignmouth were sharp and skilled enough to maximise every opportunity, setting up a try from almost every repossession.
However, Okehampton attacked back hard, with rips (Alex, Marcus, Sam), bull-headed drives (Cameron, Ethan, Harry) and a number of tackles from all the team throughout the match.
It seemed ironic that such a top-class performance from Okehampton today produced such a modest final score of 11-2 to Teignmouth, who definitely had the edge. However the Oke players finished in good spirits, knowing they’d given every ounce of what they had.
Tavistock U11s 40
Launceston U11s 10
TAVISTOCK welcomed a large Launceston squad to Sandy Park and with poor weather since Christmas the opportunity to play a match was welcome and the grounds team at Tavistock were thanked for their continued hard work.
Tavistock started positively and the heavy conditions underfoot meant, a fluid running game was going to be a challenge. The high tackle count from both sides meant that the break-away runs were few and far between, however, Tavistock’s Eddie Mills was able to wriggle through and by the end of the first quarter of play he had completed his hat trick.
With a further try from James Lamb, Tavistock were 20-0 ahead. The second quarter was a much closer affair with both teams struggling to get the ball wide and stretch defences. It was, however, Tavistock that took advantage of the chances offered, seeing James Lamb run in his second and Barney Reid run in his first, of what would turn out to be a hat trick of tries, to leave Tavistock 30-0 ahead at the half way point.
With the third quarter underway, Tavistock started to experiment more with the kicking game through Dylan Rundle, to try and get the wings running with limited success. Tavistock’s Sam Mitchell and Calum Baker tried the chip and chase but Launceston’s cover was good and the quarter ended with a further try from Tavistock’s Barney Reid and the first of the day for Launceston.
The final quarter saw increased pressure from Launceston’s ‘fresher legs’ and Tavistock’s Dylan and Eddie made good clearing kicks from close to the Tavistock line but a second try for Launceston eventually came and Barney Reid for Tavistock to completed his hat trick.

THIS was an outstanding team performance which saw Tavistock powerful in their defensive line and dangerous on the attack. It was a well matched game against a Launceston side skilled in passing with some strong runners.
After Launceston won the toss Tavistock came at them well with powerful tackling from William A and Gabriel and won possession. Some lovely passing between James, Nathan and Jack saw Ernie burst through for a try.
It was end to end stuff as Tavistock again won possession after the kick off and William E found space to run through for a try.
Tavistock kept their defensive line strong with some great tackling from Matthew, James, Gabriel and Jack. In attack they were always on each others shoulder looking for the off-load and there was great support play from George P who sent Jack in for two lovely running tries.

SOME crunching tackles in this game as Tavistock again kept their defensive line strong. Daniel opened the scoring with a bursting run through after winning possession to take the first of four tries. He then set up the second with an offload to Finlay who broke through to score.
Fearless tackling from Michael kept the opposition at bay and he was on hand to sweep up the ball and run through to score.
