Crediton U13s 55
Okehampton U13s 5
WHAT started as a beautiful day and ideal conditions for a game of rugby soon descended into the worst game of rugby Okehampton U13s have played this season.
This was a lacklustre performance by the team with missed tackles, poor support play and unused opportunities. The boys soon gave up and put in a poor performance throughout.
Crediton were a strong team but Oke have beaten them and better teams and the visitors need to get back that winning performance again.
Oke’s new player Uther put in the best performance with some outstanding tackles throughout the game. The one try for Okehampton was scored by Dan.

THE first quarter started with Okehampton showing speed from the whistle and pushed Crediton into their own half until the home side scored a couple of tries.
Oke regrouped and Robbie took to the ball and made yard after yard of solid carries pushing Crediton’s backs against their own posts. Crediton managed to turn the ball over on the line, but not for long when Conlead made an interception and crossed the line for Okehampton’s first. Score 4-1.
The second quarter saw a change of players to bolster the defence which worked as Oke only conceding one try.
The speed of the defence line was noticeable and testament to the hard work. Every charge saw Crediton either being driven backwards or making handling errors and eventually Oke seized the opportunity to strike with a dazzling display of passing down a steep fast moving line and resulting in James crossing the line in style. Score 5-2
The third had both teams showing true team sprit and showed in the score of three all. All of Okes three came from using their pace. First came from Xavier stealing the ball in the ruck and passing out to Michael who in turn ducked and spun the length of the field for his first. Second came from the artful dodger Xavier stealing from the ruck and taking it alone, this time threading all the way over the line. The best was a full team effort of defending the midfield and hold strong in the rucks until Jack struck and sent the ball tumbling for Roman to gather and place the ball under the posts. Score 8-5.
The final quarter was a masterclass of tackling skills. Conlead started with a tackle and drive out to touch, then Jack followed suit. Hector and James handled the in field play with strong and precise tackling Robbie kept up the solid carries to gain Oke valuable yards. Oke’s only try came from Xavier. The last kick came from Crediton high and wide, but safely caught by Jon Keast. Today was a great team effort.
