A fire broke out on the A30 near Sourton Cross yesterday morning.
Two appliances from Okehampton station were called to the scene, where firefighters found 60 metres of hedgerow and grass verge, and 40 metres of grass on the central reservation alight.
The road was temporarily closed while crews used three hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading any further.
Members of the public posted photos on Facebook of the grass burning and warned that there were delays in the area.
The fire broke out just days after the government issued an alert warning of a high risk of wildfires across the country.
