WEST Devon mayor Mike Davies visited Boasley Cross Primary School recently to tell pupils all about his ceremonial role — and field questions about his chain.

He’s pictured meeting the children in Years 5 and 6, and he also gave a whole school assembly. He also visited Bridestowe Primary School on the same day.

‘The younger ones, the five, six and seven year olds, have no idea about what a mayor does and they want to know about the chain, and whether I live in a big house and drive a big car,’ he said.

‘I get one of the children to dress up as the mayor, the hat and gloves and the chain and then explain how we do things.’

Cllr Davies, who represents the Okehampton North ward on West Devon Borough Council, was elected as a mayor for the year 2018/19 by his fellow councillors at the annual meeting earlier in the year. He holds the position for a year, during which he is undertaking a busy schedule visiting as many local events and schools as he can.
