Residents from across West Devon are being invited to discover local support services, improve their wellbeing and explore ways to make a difference in their community at a free event.

The event offers a wide range of wellbeing support including information on mental health and wellbeing, energy and money advice, community groups, local charities and support services.

Tavistock’s Community Wellbeing Fair takes place at Butchers Hall on Friday, October 3, from 10am - 2pm.

Organised by West Devon Community and Voluntary Services (WDCVS) , the free event builds on the success of previous ones, which have attracted more than 300 visitors. There will be dozens of local organisations offering advice, support and activities all under one roof.

Scarlett Moon, community builder with WDCVS, has organised the event, she said: “

"People have said our previous fairs helped them discover and access services they didn't know existed. People will be able to meet organisations working across a broad range of causes including community action, animal welfare, family support and environmental initiatives.”

However, alongside the wellbeing theme, organisers are introducing a new emphasis on volunteering and community involvement, encouraging people to find meaningful ways to support causes they care about.

Community engagement coordinator with WDCVS, Dawn, said, "A new feature will be the "Opp Shop" Volunteering Board, which will showcase a variety of local volunteering opportunities.

Groups seeking volunteers will also be there on the day to chat to people about available roles. Whether people have a few hours to spare each month or are looking for a more regular role, we hope this event will provide inspiration and practical information about ways to get involved."

For those interested in helping shape the future of local charities, there will also be information about becoming a charity trustee.

Dawn said "We want to demystify trustee roles and show how people from all walks of life can bring valuable skills, experience and enthusiasm to local organisations."
