A FIRE crew from Okehampton was called to reports of a chimney fire at a property in Vicarage Lane, South Tawton on Saturday.

The crew arrived at the scene at 7.34am and requested an additional appliance with a thermal imaging camera on board to assist.

The chimney fire was in an end terrace house, and crews removed insulation granules and the wooden beam involved in the fire, using a thermal imaging camera to check hotspots.

l A fire crew was also called to a farm in North Tawton on Monday, after a call from an RSPCA officer to help a bird of prey that was hanging upside down in a tree.

The crews released the sparrowhawk which was trapped in wire and left it in the hands of the RSPCA officer.
