CHILDREN from Lithuania, Italy and Spain enjoyed a fun-filled educational trip to Okehampton recently, trying everything from Morris dancing to a proper Devon cream tea.

The group of 32 children and four teachers visited the town as part of an Erasmus exchange programme which recently saw Okehampton Primary School visit Ferrol in Spain.

The Okehampton visit in the last week in March was hosted by the primary school and the visitors went out on trips with pupils from the primary school and joined them in activities in school.

They stayed at the Ashbury Hotel.

Okehampton Primary teachers Lisa Barker and Nicola Kenmere hosted the trip.

’It has been a really great project and it is great for the kids to experience meeting people from different cultures,’ said Lisa. ‘It went really well,’

The children overcame the language barrier by working together on graphic short stories inspired by their activities. These included a visit to Morwellham Quay and a cream tea at Toast café. They also visited Okehampton Town Hall and learned more about what goes on there.

Nicola added: ‘They have all been complimentary about the town. They loved Okehampton and want to come back.’
