Two mums who set up two free Tavistock area school uniform swap events have thanked all who took part.

Bex Mills and Faye Pysden invited parents to donate pre-worn uniforms and choose items for children who attend schools in the Tavistock area free of charge as a way of helping during the ongoing rising cost of living.

It was not necessary to make donations or to be a parent to use the service at two events in Tavistock Library during August. Anyone was invited to choose from a wide selection of shirts, skirts, ties, fleeces, T-shirts and jumpers from schools including Tavistock Primary, St Peter’s, Tavistock; St Andrew’s, Buckland Monachorum; Callington College, Horrabridge and Mary Tavy.

Bex said: “The Tavistock Schools Uniform Swap has left us feeling incredibly grateful. Thank you to every single person who came along, whether you donated, found something your child needed, passed on outgrown uniform, helped us spread the word, or simply stopped by for a chat.

“A massive thank you to everyone who has sent us such wonderful comments and messages too. Hearing how useful the swaps have been for local families, and how much people appreciate what we’re trying to create for our community, genuinely means so much to us.

“And, of course, a very special thank you to Tavistock Library for allowing us to take over their space and making these swaps possible. Without your support, we simply couldn’t do this.

“What started as an idea to help families pass on uniform they no longer needed and find the things they did need has grown into something that feels really special, a community coming together, helping one another and making sure good-quality uniform gets another life.

“Thank you everyone for believing in it, supporting it and making it what it is. We hope to stage this again.”
