TWO Okehampton sisters, and aspiring beauty queens, have entered in this year's Miss Devon competition in the hope of one of them bringing home the crown.
Maggie and Lizzie King, who both studied at Okehampton College, are trying to bring the Miss Devon title to Okehampton.
Maggie, who works as an accountant in Okehampton, entered the competition last year and hopes to succeed this year.
She said: 'It would be nice to show girls that your don't have to be models to enter — it's not all about the make up and fake tans. We're both farmer's daughters and 90 percent of the time I don't even wear make up. Miss Devon is about personality, confidence and charity, that's what really matters.
'There's a lot of people who enter from South Devon and Plymouth but not many from the rest of Devon. I hope to spread the word. I just don't think the competition is publicised widely enough in the rest of the county. Most of the people from where I live don't even know that Miss Devon exists!'
This will be Lizzie's, a student at Okehampton College, first ever beauty pageant.
She said there will be no competition between to two of them.
'I don't see it like that,' she said. 'We are both competitive, but not against each other. We play netball for the same team so we want to see each other do well and then the team does well.'
Maggie agreed: 'I would be just as happy to see my sister win as I would be if I won myself.'
Maggie and Lizzie are currently semi-finalists in Miss Devon 2015 and hope to progress to the final. Six finalists are decided by the public via text vote, one by social media and five are 'wild cards' decided by the Miss England office.
You can help Maggie and Lizzie by texting 'Miss Devon15' and 'Miss Devon14' to 63333 by May 24. You can visit the Miss Devon section of the Miss England website to see all the semi-finalists and for voting details.
