Chagford v Thorverton

ELECTING to bat, Chagford made slow progress against the Thorverton four pronged attack with their overseas opening bowler Charlton being difficult to score from.

Although the first wicket parnership realised 27, wickets fell at regular intervals, with many the victims of rash shots.    A last wicket partnership of 42 between Neal Rowlands (21 not out) and Ducan Christophers (16) enabled Chagford to reach 152 all out.    Billy Searle top scored with 29 and bowlers Crouch 3-23, Charlton 1-31, Choules 2-46 and Fury 4-43 shared the wickets in  a disappointing Chagford batting performance.

For the second consecutive match an important dropped catch in the first over contributed to Chagford's defeat — this time as wicketkeeper Loard dropped the Thorverton captain Fury off Lammonby's first ball.    Aly Fury went on to make an aggresive 56 off the first 75 runs and although the Chagford bowlers made inroads into the Thorverton batting, a seventh wicket partners of 26 by Maxwell (10no) and Taverner (13no) saw the away side home and to victory with three wickets to spare.

Bowling Billy Searle 3-52, Ducan Christophers 2-10, Garry Sizmur 1-19 and Rowlands 1-30 accounted for the wickets.

Thorverton won by three wickets, Thorverton 19 points. Chagford 6 points.

This defeat leaves Chagford next to bottom, but with more players being available skipper Lammonby hopes for an improvement in results soon.
