Chagford Reserves 1

Stoke Fleming Reserves 1

Chagford Reserves took the game to Stoke Fleming straight from the start.

The home side enjoyed much possession in the first 20 minutes and were unlucky not to score at least two —Stoke's Mark Daniels saving well and a couple of superb crosses somehow missed from close in.

Stoke gradually played themselves back into contention but Geering was quick off his line to thwart them, more that once. Chagford's young 'keeper also did excellently to turn Stoke's best shot round his right hand post. A three man defence ahead of him coped admirably but were sometimes left short by their midfielders not tracking back quickly enough.

Stocks, Reeves and Scarry, at the front, looked a little disjointed and unable to come to terms with a three man offence — but they did well to work back as the first half progressed.

The visitors quickly took control just after the break but Chagford were quicker to close down. As the half progressed, so gaps began to appear and both 'keepers saw more of the ball.

Daniels again showed safe hands to keep Stoke alive and it was a long clearance from him that led to Stoke's 65th minute goal. The ball was edged on to Reece Medway, who out-paced the home defence and calmly slotted the ball in at Geering's far post. This raised Stoke spirits and, for a time, Chagford wavered.

With ten minutes to go, James Licence came on for his debut and, despite his tender years, showed he had no worries at senior level. Within minutes he nearly had a dream start, stretching to narrowly turn a great cross just wide.

With the clock running into stoppage time, Bint was hauled down well inside the box, and a penalty awarded.

Jon Scarry hit the ball well enough under Daniel's diving body for a deserved equaliser. The final minutes saw both teams going for a winner but to no avail.

This was a spirited revival by Chagford but they really need to collect more home points, in their quest for promotion.
