OKEHAMPTON College students stretched their imaginations and nerves during a spooky writing workshop with author Sandra Greaves.

Sandra, who lives in Devon, published her debut novel The Skull in the Woods in 2013. The book, which was nominated for the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize, is set on Dartmoor and takes inspiration from the area, including Wistman's Wood.

During her visit Sandra gave presentations to several year groups, and led writing workshops which encouraged students to explore their creative side and test their writing skills.

Sandra said: 'Being from Devon and having set the book on Dartmoor, it is nice to come to schools that are around the moor, like here in Okehampton.

'I love coming into schools and working with the students.

'Some of the writing by students here genuinely blew me away.

'It sent shivers down my spine, which shows how good it was and how well they grasped the notion of writing something scary.'
