Bridestowe firsts v Chagford firsts

BRIDESTOWE firsts secured a comfortable victory at home against struggling Chagford.

Visiting openers Roger Whittingham (11) Jacob Griffiths (20) got off to a solid start, putting on 31 for the first wicket. Ryan Dennis (2-18) and Chris Lavis (2-20) both bowled accurate opening spells, and once Lavis got the breakthrough, wickets started to tumble.

After the openers, only Jim Mawle (16) reached double figures as Bridestowe picked up regular wickets. Jack Barkwell (3-8) blew away the lower order with an accurate spell to dismiss Chagford for 78.

Bridestowe openers James Ewen (14) and Gary Sizmur (27 not out) wasted no time and looked to get the game won by tea. Oliver Herrington (2-30) dismissed Ewen and Jack Hatton (11), but the hosts continued to play their shots. Sizmur and Phil Hatton (10 no) saw Bridestowe home inside just 14 overs.

With Bovey Tracey second XI losing to Shaldon, the C West title and promotion is still mathematically within reach for Bridestowe, but second place seems a more realistic target.
