HATHERLEIGH Cricket Club organised a World Cup for the All Stars children in the area.

On a beautiful sunny morning earlier this month all the children were split into World Cup teams and played mini matches against each other during the morning. The matches were exciting and well contested with the winners of the World Cup being Sri Lanka. There was even a guest appearance by Twinkle – the All Stars mascot.

Later in the day the ladies’ team played a league match and notched up a terrific win against Axminster Ladies to put them top of the league. Despite some powerful batting by Axminister, Hatherleigh bowled well and backed up with good fielding and some excellent catches – they finished their innings on 92 all out. Eloise Maxa took three wickets for 18 runs, Kirsty Hambley and India Spears both taking two wickets each and only conceding one run, with Holly Presswell and Lucy Quick taking one wicket each.

Hatherleigh made short work of the runs, attacking from the start and reached the target with 19 overs to spare having lost five wickets; Holly Presswell top scored with 20, Kirsty Hambley 15 and Angie Rose 12.
