Tavistock Veterans 2

Plymouth Argyle Legends 3

PRIOR to Saturday’s main match between the Lambs and Plymouth Argyle, Tavistock’s veterans took on the Argyle Legends in an entertaining game.

The Argyle Legends opened the scoring in the opening minutes when Bradley Swiggs scored from close range.

In the 12th minute the veterans equalised when they were awarded a spot kick for handball. Robbie Pethick calmly flashed the ball home low into the corner of the net. Shortly afterwards, home goalkeeper Andy Meeds made a fine save to deny the legends from regaining the lead.

On the half hour mark, Argyle were awarded a penalty but Swiggs fired over the bar. Both teams continued to play some fine football but the scores remained level at the interval.

Early in the second half, Geoff Babb beat two defenders but dragged his shot just wide of the target.

The Lambs veterans took the lead after some fine work by Paul Cowling found Andy Bowker, who fired an unstoppable shot from 22 yards.

Argyle came back strongly at Tavistock and they were awarded another penalty.

Jock Morrison took spot kick duty this time around, blasting the ball into the top corner of the net to level the scores.

It was Bradley Swiggs who sealed the victory for the legends late on when after a fine move, he was on hand to slot the ball home from six yards.

Both teams are to be congratulated on providing a fine game of football.
