Okehampton ladies’ first 7

Dartmouth ladies 2

AN eagerly awaited first match of the season against Dartmouth was the order of the day for Okehampton.

Starting as they meant to go on, the home side went ahead when Jo Moppett took sole possession and scored the first for Okehampton within 10 seconds of pushback.

After this confident start, Oke upped the pressure on the visitors’ goal and their efforts were rewarded when Hannah Whiteley swept the ball into the back of the net for a second.

Dartmouth retaliated, putting on the pressure and finding a hole in the Oke defence, which they converted into a goal just before half time. Opening the second half, Lesley Bingham made it three and as Oke pushed towards the goal again player of the match captain Kim Davey got in on the action, scoring her first goal of the season with a flying effort into the top corner.

Dartmouth tried to get back in the game with another goal, but this was closely followed by a straight strike adding a second goal to Davey’s tally.

Two more goals from Whiteley completed her hat trick, with the game finishing a convincing win to Okehampton.
