Buckley Cup

Tedburn St Mary v Belstone

A TYPICALLY high-scoring game at Tedburn St Mary ended with Belstone suffering their first defeat in this season's Buckley Cup as they failed by 17 runs to reach the home side's total.

Dave Rich (28 retired) and Neil Branton (25 retired) got Tedburn off to a flying start with 14 coming off the first over and it was not until the score had reached 77 in the tenth over that Belstone took their first wicket.

Parsons (20) continued the attack and Barlow took another 14 from the final over from the unusually expensive Tom Fogerty. Callum Mallett kept Belstone in the points for wickets taken with figures of 4-24 from his four overs.

Needing 149 to win Belstone began well, with 13 coming off their first over.

Scott Tremain retired on 25 and Ryan Dennis made a quick 22 but when the fifth and sixth wickets both fell with 84 on the board Tedburn were in control, opening bowler Barlow (4-1-10-3) being particularly effective.

Belstone came back into contention as Dan Fogerty (28 not out) and Jack Davey (17) put on 41 for the seventh wicket in five overs leaving 24 to be scored off the final three overs.

Crucially, Dave Rich only conceded two runs from the next over and Powell just three runs from the penultimate over, with both picking up wickets as well, leaving returning batsman Scott Tremain and Fogerty needing to score 19 off the last over – the pressure told as Fogerty was run out on the second ball.

Tedburn (14pts) beat Belstone (8pts) by 17 runs.
