Okehampton student Mari Baldwin is the National Schools’ Under-19 girls Table Tennis Champion.

Mari, 17, won the title at the Butterfly Schools Individual Finals, held by Table Tennis England in Wolverhampton.

The top seed, a student at Okehampton College, made her way through group and knockout stages to face third seed Erin Green from Nottingham in the final.

She had to stave off a fightback by Green to take the title 3-1 (11-5, 11-5, 8-11, 15-13).

Champion Mari said: ‘It feels really good because my first title was at under-13 and it’s nice to win the under-19s in my last year at this competition.

‘I’ve never won an event when I’ve been the top seed, so there was that worry, but I was able to fulfil that place.’
