Okehampton U13s 30

Totnes U13s 5

TOTNES provided another strong visiting team whose size made some of the Okehampton players look quite small. A team who had disbanded last season before reforming this season showed good teamwork, some of their players were new to the game and had only been playing for a matter of weeks.

Josh and Ed started the game with some fierce tackling while Okehampton’s passing was superb. Adam charged through the visitors handing off until he was bought to a halt. Totnes then had a good passage of play and turned the game around to their advantage and scored. Alex charged along the wing where he was tackled; a ruck followed and Lachs then scored.

A scrum close to the tryline saw Craddy pass to Adam and on to Reuben to score. Craddy’s quick thinking saw him kick and chase the ball and then pounce on it once it crossed the line. Play then again found its way back towards the Oke try line; a scrum resulted which Craddy picked and darted through for his second try.

The second half saw a well matched game with equal play in both halves. Lachs made a terrific tackle which must have made his opponent wonder what had happened to him. A Totnes knock on gave Okehampton the scrum, the ball was passed to Tom who paced up the touchline before he was tackled. A great display of teamwork, which resulted in a try for Josh and this was swiftly followed by a try from Dan.

All the Okehampton players should be commended on their support for one another.

ON a drizzly Sunday at North Tawton RFC, Totnes could only muster eight players so Ollie from Oke kindly played the first quarter in a blue shirt.

The first quarter started with Conlead for Oke showng his strength and carrying the ball a good 20 yards for Xavier to finish off which showed the way for the others. Tries came from a Hector and Joe combo, a Luka’s interception and one more from Luka and Xav to make it 6-1.

The second quarter started with Xavier helping out for Totnes much to Oke’s disappointment. The away side had a valiant attempt at defending Oke’s onslaught but nothing could prepare them for player of the match Luka at full speed for one try and Joe showing raw power to drive ten yards over the line.

Combined with Ollie back on side for one, a cheeky touch run from James, a solid run from Con and another from Luka the quarter ended at 12-3.

By the third quarter Tom was showing his confidence. This quarter saw Michael receiving the kick with skill and pace for a 30 yard carry and passing out for Xav to finish.

This was followed by Lucy with a masterclass on ruck and drive covering half the field and involving all players through five phases, rewarding Lucy with the try. Two more tries for Xavier, one from James and a full pace screamer from Jack ending in score of 17-4.

The final quarter saw both coaches agreeing to pool all players and split into two mixed teams. Great fun was had by all and inevitably all the tries coming from Oke players Hector, Joe and Jack for Totnes and Luka, Roman and Xavier for Okehampton ending in a respectful 3-3.

THE Visitors were strong but Okehampton were up for the challenge. Sam W quickly set the game off to a good start with the first try. Samuel L did not disappoint and his quick feet and a superb burst up the field secured Oke’s second.

Totnes had some larger players and this seemed to give them an advantage at times but Oke kept strong and focused with their teamwork outstanding.

Charlie and Corey made a great joint tackle to push the Totnes player into touch to gain possession for Oke. This allowed Charlie to make good speed across the field to gain Oke another try. By half time Totnes led 7-5.

The second half showed some more great tackling and clever passing from Oke and they proved they were not giving up without a fight. Oke continued to put on the pressure and a panicked forward pass by the Totnes player gained them the ball. Sam W strength and determination saw him burst through their line to gain another try.

Oke tries: Sam W 4, Samuel L 4, Charlie 2, Hugo (Totnes player) 1.

Okehampton U9s B 4 tries

Totnes U9s 8 tries

OKEHAMPTON had a great start with run down the touch line from Joseph, who offloaded to Harry; he passed on to Amalie to touch down.

Although Oke put up some good defence with tackles from all players, the towering Totnes team were able to score the next few tries.

Oke never gave up though.  Amalie made a great tackle and Harry was stopped from scoring on the line.  Continued good passing and runs from Felicity, Grace and Luke gave Amalie the chance to score Oke’s second try of the half.

Totnes, who as a team were notably bigger, had some quick runners and at the end of the half Oke trailed by 2-6 tries.

Totnes were first to score in the second half but Oke showed their resilience.

Grace confidently carried the ball forward until she was bought down by a Totnes player; Joseph collected and passed to Amalie who went on to score another great try.

Felicity made a great run and with sustained support from Grace and Harry and a pass to Luke, Oke’s second try was scored.  Great passing and team work continued and Luke was again in receipt of the ball, despite having a Totnes player hanging off him Luke secured Oke’s third try and the eighth of the half.  Amalie finished the Oke scoring with another great try. Grace was awarded Oke’s player of the match for her determined play throughout.
