Devon and Exeter three

Thorverton 0

SOUTH Zeal got back to winning ways at Thorverton on Saturday as they completely dominated the home side for most of the match.

The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes when Lee Gilbert sent brother Darren down the left and his perfect cross was headed home by Harley Cann. Five minutes later Darren was put through, with a perfect ball from Scott Hooper, and as Darren cut in on goal he was brought down from behind, Daniel Gibbs stepped up to put Zeal 2-0 from the penalty spot. Thorverton were not really a threat and Zeal went 3-0 up when Graham Soby converted a Redd Cann corner from close range. Five minutes before half time Tom Reilly played Darren Gilbert in with a great ball but yet again Darren was upended in the penalty area and Daniel Gibbs scored his second from the penalty spot to put Zeal 4-0 up.

For the first 10 minutes of the second half Thorverton pressurised the South Zeal defence but could not carve out a decent chance and Zeal went 5-0 up when Jamie Atherton put Harley Cann through and his brilliant finish gave the home keeper no chance. Phil Evans went close on a few occasions but Darren Gilbert got the goal he deserved to give Zeal all three points.
