North Tawton 52

New Cross 12

NORTH Tawton took their new league campaign to two wins in two as they brushed aside a travelling New Cross side in emphatic fashion.

The game started with a meaningful intent from the hosts as Ben Sharp latched onto a loose ball to score the opening try in a fine individual effort.

Despite an even match up in the set piece Tawton saw an opportunity out wide and ran the much larger guests around the park. Craig Dennis impacted with a brace of tries; Ayris finished off an excellent team effort on the counter attack and Luke Dennis produced the try of the game selling a superb dummy to coast to the line from 50 metres out. Alex Dennis converted all five efforts bringing the half time score to 35-0.

The second half saw a much improved New Cross walk the field as pressure was exerted on the home side. This pressure told as a number of offences saw the referee award the south Devonians a penalty try. A further score from in close hinted at a late come back from the visitors. However, proceedings were soon halted as Ayris and L Dennis completed doubles.

With tempers flaring late on North Tawton saw Bennett sent to the bin and with Kerswill off the field with a head injury a new look front row held strong against the sizeable pack of New Cross.

The game was fittingly finished with a Craig Dennis hat trick for North Tawton, duly converted by cousin Alex. This result sees North Tawton sitting top of Devon one.
