THE Fatherford Bridge is a monstrous eyesore completely out of keeping with its environment, its main problems being design and colour.  An open lattice work bridge is needed to blend in.  We recently went to Moretonhampstead where there is a fairly modern bridge along the old railway route crossing the A382 road just past Thompsom's, for pedestrians, cyclists and horses.  When you are on it, it is light and airy, has high sides and you can see through to admire the countryside, yet from the road it is pleasant to look at — in fact you almost don't notice it. So being stuck with our hideous bridge forming part of the gateway to our moorland town, if we can't get rid of it, at least paint it.  A lesson on how can be gained from the massive Morrisons building along the M5 which cleverly blends into the landscape.  Or is this a chance to paint a beautiful mural?
