A CHARITY car wash in Hatherleigh has helped to raise more than £200 for a group of teachers and parents who are preparing to jump 15,000 feet from an aeroplane to raise money for the town primary school.

Teachers Hugh Lea, Will Bardot and Donna Lewis, chair of Hatherleigh Primary School’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association, are among a group of 12 preparing to make the jump from a light aircraft at Dunkeswell Aerodrome on the Devon-Somerset border to raise £4,000 to complete an amphitheatre in a woodland area in the school grounds.

The car wash was another part of the team’s fundraising efforts.

Donna Lewis said: ‘We had a very successful day with cars arriving non-stop to be washed and cleaned out.

‘We raised roughly just over £200 towards our sponsored parachute jump.’

The jump had originally been planned for September 16 but was postponed due to the weather and will now take place on October 14.
