THE sun shone on Callington Carnival, allowing residents of the town to line the streets to watch a spectacular event —which saw inventive and colourful entries. Callington Primary School won best in carnival and also best junior float with its imaginative recreation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Joint second was Dimson Nursery with Madagascar and Callington Mustard Seed with Seedlings; third was St Mary's Church with Jonah. The junior walkers was won by Tanya's Childminding Service with 'Superheroes'. The best adult float was won by Prim Raf with 'Aladdin' and second was Callington Twinning Association. The adult walkers prize was jointly won by New Outlook and the Pannier Market Posse; second was Community Creations. The Pannier Market Posse and Community Creations are both local traders who took the opportunity to promote their business as well as supporting a community event. The musical entertainment was supplied by Callington Town Band and Jumping Out Jazz, which added to the whole atmosphere of the procession. The Carnival Committee expressed thanks to everyone who entered and supported the event, which made it such a fantastic procession, especially Callington Young Farmers, 'without whose involvement the carnival would not take place'. Thanks also went to Raynet, Callington Fire Brigade, St John Ambulance, the police, the marshalls from the Lions and Rotary Clubs and to Kernow Delivery for collecting the cones at the end. All the residents who turned out to cheer on the procession were also praised. Next year's carnival will be on Saturday, July 4.
