OKEHAMPTON College held its annual awards evening on June 21, where 350 students received awards from college staff.

The evening, attended by 700 guests, commenced with the Key Stage 3 Awards, where teachers in each faculty area nominated students for awards that covered excellence, improvement, effort and House awards which reward student contribution to either their tutor group, or active participation in House activities.

The ceremony also included the presentation of the Year 9 Junior Graduation Awards by Executive Principal Daryll Chapman.

Following this, was the Year 11 Graduation Ceremony. During Year 11, students received graduation points for the various aspects of college life that the college and the community thought were important. In order to graduate, each student must gain a minimum score in areas of attendance and approach to learning. The more points gathered and recorded, the further up the leader board a student graduates.

Guests also had the opportunity to watch the work of Year 11 media studies students who had put together a video trailer as part of their course work.

Arron Wilson, awards evening co-ordinator said: ‘This was an opportunity for parents to glow with pride and for the college to publicly recognise the achievements of so many of our students. The evening was a real success and I would like to thank everybody who supported it’.
